Kamchatka schoolchildren have developed a project to prevent “red tides”

Kamchatka high school students suggested using drones to save human lives in the event of a threat of natural disasters, Kamchatka.Today reports with reference to the regional Ministry of Education of the region.

The students created variants of flood monitoring and red tide prevention systems during the shift of the regional design school, which operated on the basis of the Gagarin children’s health camp. 60 young residents of Kamchatka worked in two areas – “Useful games” and “Complex robotics”.

“For three weeks, students not only received relevant knowledge from mentors and experts, but also developed full–fledged projects covering important topics for the region, from digital education to monitoring systems for natural phenomena. All the work is of an applied nature,” the Ministry said.

When creating technologies for monitoring natural phenomena, the teams chose two cases: flood monitoring and red tide prevention. Schoolchildren have come up with a system that can help save lives and minimize flood damage. The students of the design school proposed launching an autonomous drone that flies to the right point, measures the water level with a laser, takes pictures of the shore, identifies flood zones and sends data to district administrations and emergency services.
