Economic entities will be disconnected from the water supply for illegal wastewater discharges into Kultuchnoye Lake, the regional Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology told Kamchatka.Today.

They noted that work is underway to design the clearing of the reservoir from accumulated silt deposits over decades. But without the elimination of unauthorized drains, this does not make sense.

The Environmental Department, together with the administration of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, the regional Ministry of Housing and Communal Services and Energy, and Kamchatka Vodokanal, calculate subscribers who have contracts for water supply, but without documents for sanitation.

“It is clear that if there are no such agreements, it means that the drains are leaving unauthorized. We are working with business entities, of which there are enough around the lake. These are subscribers of different levels of subordination and supervision, but we need to force them to stop dumping untreated wastewater into the reservoir,” said Alexey Kumarkov, head of the Ministry of Natural Resources of the region.

He noted the positive outcome of the communication with the owners of the large shopping centers Vega and Galant Plaza. They were offered to eliminate unauthorized “tie-ins” into storm sewers on their own and at their own expense. And they did it.

The minister explained that in the absence of feedback from the owners, legitimate but unpopular measures will be taken, including disconnecting subscribers from the water supply networks. It is also possible to apply administrative measures.
