Kamchatka Sets Regulated Holiday Tree Quotas to Protect Forests

Kamchatka authorities have concluded auctions for the legal harvesting of coniferous trees for the upcoming winter holidays. Following the bidding process organized by the regional forestry department, quotas were distributed between the Hermes corporation and a local independent entrepreneur. The approved volume for the current season includes 2,500 dwarf Siberian pine branches alongside approximately 300 spruce and pine trees, which will soon be delivered to regional holiday markets.

The designated logging areas are located within the boundaries of the Atlasovsky, Yelizovsky, and Klyuchevskoy forestry sectors. The selection of specific zones is strictly regulated – harvesting is permitted exclusively in territories with excessive forest density or in areas scheduled for planned clearing. This forestry management approach meets seasonal public demand without compromising the ecological integrity of the peninsula. Approximately 3,000 coniferous trees are legally harvested and sold through these annual auctions.

Amid the official harvesting campaign, regulatory agencies are intensifying their oversight to prevent illegal logging. The unauthorized destruction of trees carries administrative fines ranging from 3,000 to 4,000 rubles – provided the calculated damage to the forest ecosystem does not exceed 5,000 rubles. If the financial impact surpasses this threshold, the violation escalates to a criminal offense punishable by a maximum of two years in prison. Residents are encouraged to report any suspicious activities within the forest tracts directly to emergency services.
