Initial laboratory results have been released regarding the mass death of birds on Khalaktyrsky beach in Kamchatka. Highly contagious diseases have been ruled out, and regional water samples remain within acceptable environmental limits.
Autopsies conducted on the bird carcasses revealed a severe helminthic infestation – a parasitic worm condition causing significant damage to the internal organs. The definitive cause of the mortality event will be determined once the full suite of laboratory analyses is complete.
Biological and water samples have been forwarded to specialized facilities for in-depth diagnostic testing. Relevant environmental and agricultural authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The investigation was initiated a few days earlier after local residents shared video footage on social networks showing more than ten dead birds washed up along the shoreline. Following this discovery, agricultural and veterinary safety officials immediately collected the initial samples to identify the cause of the fatalities.
