Local authorities were recently alerted to two distinct incidents of environmental degradation. In the first case, citizens reported the illicit discharge of liquid household waste from a sewage collection vehicle approximately 1.5 kilometers off the main Ust-Bolsheretsk highway, on the access road to the village of Karymay. Such an act in a relatively undeveloped area raises concerns about the potential contamination of local ecosystems and groundwater.
The second incident points to a more localized but equally concerning pattern of pollution within the region’s capital, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. Near a stream adjacent to Garage Cooperative No. 37, observers noted both the indiscriminate dumping of various wastes directly onto the ground and the practice of incinerating waste in metal barrels. These activities pose an immediate threat to the water quality of the stream and the surrounding urban environment.
In response to these citizen complaints, the Kamchatka Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology has promptly initiated investigations into both reports.
