Kamchatka fishermen took part in the Okhotsk pollock fishing season 2025

On January 1, the Okhotsk fishing season «A» started, during which the main catch of pollock – is up to 80% of the annual volume, reports the Federal Fisheries Agency.

Every year, about 100 vessels, including Kamchatka, large and medium-tonnage fleets, go fishing for pollock and herring in the winter-spring period. About 800 thousand tons of pollock are mined in the Sea of Okhotsk and 150 thousand tons of herring in the North Sea of Okhotsk subzone.   

For 2025, the total allowable catch of pollock in the Sea of Okhotsk is set at 1.1 million tons, herring in the North Sea of Okhotsk subzone – at 310 thousand tons.

Pollock fishing in the «A» season in the West Kamchatka and Kamchatka-Kuril subzones ends before April 1, in the North Sea of Okhotsk subzone – until April 10, Pacific herring in the North Sea of Okhotsk subzone – until April 15. In 2024, Kamchatka fishermen caught more than 300 thousand tons of pollock during the «A» season.

The autumn-winter season of «B» starts in mid-October. Within its framework, fishermen catch pollock, cod and herring until December 31. The Okhotsk pollock expedition – is one of the largest fishing routes not only in Russia, but throughout the world.
