To save salmon: a hotline against poachers has been launched in Kamchatka

In Kamchatka, on the eve and during the intense period of salmon fishing, the territorial administration of Rosrybolovstvo is taking decisive steps to protect the priceless fish stocks of the region. One of the key tools in this fight will be direct communication with concerned citizens – the agency has announced the launch of a special “hotline”. Its purpose is to promptly receive information about illegal fishing, which causes enormous damage to both the ecosystem and the economy of the region.

During the period when schools of salmon rush to spawn in the rivers of the Kamchatka Territory, the activity of poachers traditionally increases sharply. Realizing the scale of the threat, fish protection officers are strengthening patrols on the peninsula’s most important waterways. However, the vastness of the territories and the ingenuity of the intruders require an integrated approach. Therefore, the agency relies on the active involvement of the local population, whose help can be invaluable in detecting and suppressing criminal activity.

Citizens who have witnessed violations of environmental legislation, or those who have information about impending or ongoing acts of poaching, are urged not to stand aside. It is possible to report illegal fishing, the use of prohibited fishing gear or other suspicious activities in reservoirs around the clock. Two Hotline phone numbers have been allocated for this purpose: 8 (924) 892-75-07 and 8 (4152) 23-58-40. Each call will be processed, and the information received will help inspectors more effectively resist the plundering of Kamchatka’s natural resources.
