Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky International Airport – located in Yelizovo – experienced an unprecedented influx of caterpillars on August 7. Large quantities of insect larvae were observed congregating near the main entrance to the terminal building.
Airport maintenance personnel deployed street-sweeping and watering vehicles to clear the area and manage the insect presence. The surge in the caterpillar population is attributed to a recent period of consistently warm weather in the region, which has established highly favorable conditions for their reproduction.
