The Month of Silence starts in the Valley of geysers in Kamchatka
A month of silence is starting in the Valley of Geysers in Kamchatka, and helicopter tours will be significantly reduced in the Uzon-Geyser district of the Kronotsky Nature Reserve from May 30 to June 30, the KAMCHATKA-INFORM agency was informed by the press service of the reserve.
They recalled that the annual conservation event is designed to minimize the anxiety of animals during an important period for them — the breeding season.
During the month of silence, permits for excursions will be issued on the day of the visit until 11:00, taking into account the current situation (especially the activity of bears). Priority is given to tour groups on low—noise helicopters (Robinson, Eurocopter, Bell, Mi-2). Prohibited: sightseeing flights of the canyon of the Geysernaya River (except in emergency cases); multi-day tours in the valley.
In June, bears are in the mating season in the Valley of Geysers, birds hatch clutches, including near hiking trails. Bighorn sheep breed in mountainous areas.
Currently, 9 bears have already been spotted in the valley of the Geysernaya River, including two two-year-old cubs recently left without maternal care. According to Vladimir Vlasenko, state inspector of the Kronotsky Nature Reserve, the bears have begun a courtship period — the females demonstrate playful behavior, and the males try to win their attention.
