Scientists have checked the condition of the most famous and viable active natural fountains of the Kronotsky Reserve after the winter, the KAMCHATKA-INFORM agency was informed by the administration of the reserve.

Some of the geysers are characterized by an intermittent cycle of eruptions. During the field season, observations of the life of the rarest hot springs on our planet will be conducted. Today, there are about 60 geysers in the Kamchatka Valley of Geysers, one of the five largest geyser fields in the world.

In the lower reaches of the Geysernaya River, scientists are conducting long-term observations of the dynamics of discharge of the Valley’s hydrothermal system. This time, loggers were installed there – temperature sensors that allow you to get new information about the temperature rise in the river, as well as at the outflows of geysers, and thereby learn about the mode of eruptions.

After that, the researchers visited Pervenets geyser, which was discovered by Tatiana Ustinova and Anisifor Krupenin, employees of the Kronotsky Nature Reserve, on April 14, 1941. It continues to recover after it was covered by a landslide on June 3, 2007. It erupts every 15 minutes to a height of about one and a half meters.

“In the Valley of Geysers itself, since bears are already actively feeding in thermal glades and creating pairs, we needed special support from state inspectors. We collected water samples in a Large one, gas samples in a Small One and moved towards the Giant geyser, near which two bears were feeding on fresh grass at once. They didn’t pay attention to us, but we decided to be careful, quickly removed the data from the loggers, took water samples and left. There was also a large male sitting near the Grotto geyser, so we handed over the task to state inspector Elena Subbotina, and as soon as the beast left, she was able to remove the loggers and send them to my laboratory,” said Alexey Kiryukhin, senior researcher at the reserve, a hydrogeologist.

After the Valley of Geysers, Kiryukhin visited the only geyser of the Uzon – Mutny volcano caldera. Its hot character is cooled by the waters of the stream, which fill the funnel of a natural hot fountain.
