Construction of a new scientific research station for the Commander Islands National Park has concluded in Gladkovskaya Bay. The residential module is fully equipped to support staff during fieldwork operations. The interior features necessary furniture and utensils, alongside dedicated shelving units designed to store scientific equipment and personal belongings. An adjacent utility block has also been constructed – providing essential amenities that include a restroom and a summer shower.
The upgraded infrastructure will broaden the scope of scientific research conducted on Bering Island. This facility completes a network of field houses distributed along the coastal areas of the island. Researchers can now travel between the various bays and conduct extended studies without the need for temporary tent camps. The development of this new research station was financed by the Presidential Nature Fund.
