Waves from the Bering Sea have washed a dead whale onto the northeastern coast of Kamchatka, near the village of Korf in the Olyutorsky District. A local resident discovered the carcass of the marine mammal on a sandspit and documented the event.
The remains are expected to provide a substantial food source for regional wildlife – particularly scavengers such as gulls, which have already gathered at the site. Brown bears are anticipated to arrive within a few days as the decomposition process advances and the scent grows stronger.
The carcasses of marine animals that have died from various causes periodically wash ashore along the coastlines of the Kamchatka Peninsula.
