Kamchatka Targets Premium Tourism – Abandons Budget Travel

The Kamchatka Territory is focusing on attracting tourists in the premium segment and has no plans to develop mass budget travel destinations. The average expenditure for a single trip to the region currently ranges between 200,000 and 300,000 rubles. Residents of central Russia remain the primary demographic visiting the peninsula.

Deputy Chairperson of the regional government Evgeniya Pozdnyakova announced at a recent Investor Day that vacations in the region will remain expensive. Government calculations indicate that a single day in Kamchatka costs a tourist an average of 40,000 rubles. The administration confirmed a lack of plans to create low-cost infrastructure. The investment event was organized by the Far East and Arctic Development Corporation and hosted by VEB.RF facilities.

Despite the high costs, regional authorities anticipate a substantial increase in visitor numbers. The peninsula currently receives approximately 450,000 people annually, but the regional government has set a definitive target – one million visitors per year. This milestone is expected to be reached between 2030 and 2035. The strategic focus on affluent travelers is designed to offset the high financial burden of constructing hotels and expanding the transportation network in this remote region.
