The Kamchatka Transport Prosecutor’s Office is taking legal action to enforce environmental compliance by a local stevedoring company. An inspection revealed that the firm, which handles coal transshipment at the seaport of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, is operating without a positive state environmental review for its commercial activities.
Following the inspection, a formal representation was issued to the head of the company. The stevedoring firm was held administratively liable and fined 100,000 rubles for the regulatory breach. However, the company failed to rectify the violations and continued its operations without securing the required environmental clearances.
Due to this ongoing noncompliance, the Kamchatka transport prosecutor has filed a lawsuit to compel the stevedore to obtain the necessary documentation. The prosecutor’s office will monitor the progress of the legal proceedings – as well as the final court decision – to ensure that environmental safety standards are met at the port facility.
