The Kamchatka Ministry of Fisheries has distributed quotas for 2025 for the production of whitefish and crabs for recreational fishing. The total volume of approved limits was almost 250 tons.

As the Kamchatka Ministry of Fisheries told IA «Kam 24», residents of the region can catch all these types of aquatic biological resources free of charge outside the boundaries of fishing grounds with permitted fishing gear and within the established standards.

«In total, about 248 tons of aquatic biological resources were distributed among users for 2025, of which 76 tons were Kamchatka crabs on the West Coast and almost 64 tons of snow crab on the East Coast of Kamchatka. It is also possible for companies that own fishing grounds to organize recreational fishing in their areas in relation to cod, pollock, halibut, greenling, navaga and flounder», said Pavel Buryak, assistant of the fisheries department of the Ministry of Fisheries of the Kamchatka Territory.

The ministry added that in 2025 it is planned to introduce restrictions on the fishing of Kamchatka crab in the Western Kamchatka subzone.

A complete ban will be in effect from January 1 to September 15, 2025, which will preserve the species’ population and ensure sustainable use of resources. During this period, only fishing for research and control purposes is permitted.
