Two ski slopes are closed in Kamchatka due to lack of snow

Two ski slopes popular with residents and visitors of Kamchatka remain closed due to the snowy winter. This situation is not typical for this time of year, according to the website of the regional government.

“Surely all the locals and those guests who are currently in Kamchatka have noticed that there is practically no snow on the ski slopes. This is due to such an unusual winter. Old—timers do not remember that in Kamchatka in January there was no opportunity to fully ski on the slopes,” the director of the Kamchatka Territory Ski Federation Sergey Petrov is quoted in the message.

According to the regional Ministry of Sports, only seven of the nine ski slopes are currently available for mass skating and training. One of the most popular ski resorts on the peninsula, Frosty and Edelweiss, has been closed.

According to TASS in Kamchathydromet, December in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky and the city of Yelizovo was indeed snowless. A cyclone with precipitation is also not expected to approach the coast of Kamchatka in the coming days.
