More than 70 residents of Kamchatka have been nominated for the international award “My Affectionate and Necessary Animal” for the rescue of four killer whales in October, the KAMCHATKA-INFORM RAI reports.

According to the regional Department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, among them are employees of the department, the administration of the Sobolevsky district and volunteers. They fought fiercely for the life of the mammalian family. The story of the rescue has reverberated throughout the country.

On October 2, two adult killer whales and two cubs were trapped in an estuary near the village of Ustyovoye. The exhausted animals were discovered by local residents.

Dozens of people participated in the rescue operation. They constantly watered the sea giants with water, trying to gradually move them to a deeper place so that when the tide came in, the animals could get out of the trap on their own.

However, it was possible to free them from shallow water only on October 4. The largest killer whale was hooked with a seine and the boat gradually began to drag it to the mouth of the estuary. The rest of the family followed her. The killer whales went out into the open water and gained their freedom.

The people who saved the Red Book animals were nominated for the international award “My Affectionate and necessary Animal” for their caring. The “People’s Vote” has started.
