Scientists of Vitus Bering Kamchatka State University have discovered a new plant species for the region – Podobukovy podobukovy. The research was conducted within the framework of the national project “Science and Universities”, the university’s press service told TASS.
“The discovery was made by the staff of the Youth Laboratory of the study of anthropogenic dynamics of ecosystems of the university under the leadership of candidate of biological sciences Mikhail Kozhin. The discovery was made in the central part of the peninsula, in a spruce forest on the road to the settlement of Esso. This rare yellow-colored chlorophyllous plant belongs to the group of saprophytes – organisms that live in symbiosis with fungi and feed mainly on decomposing plant fall – Podobukovy podobukovy”, – said in the university.
The results of the study, conducted thanks to the program “Priority 2030”, scientists plan to publish in the summer of 2025 in a supplement to the publication on the flora of Kamchatka.
