Kamchatka Powers Up Green Mobility with Major Gas Fuel Hub

In a move underscoring Russia’s ongoing development strategy for its Far Eastern territories, the Kamchatka Krai is poised for a substantial infrastructure upgrade with the planned construction of a new Automotive Gas Filling Compressor Station (AGFCS) in the city of Yelizovo. This initiative represents a significant step towards enhancing regional energy independence and promoting cleaner transportation solutions.

The ambitious project is spearheaded by TERMINALTRANSGAZ LLC, a company leveraging its status as a resident of the ‘Kamchatka’ Advanced Development Territory (TOR). This strategic designation provides a framework for accelerated economic growth in the region. A formal agreement between TERMINALTRANSGAZ and the Far East and Arctic Development Corporation (FEADC) solidifies the partnership, paving the way for an investment totaling 292 million rubles – approximately $3.2 million USD – and the creation of 39 new jobs, as reported by the industry publication ‘Oil, Gas, LNG’.

Spanning a land plot exceeding 5,000 square meters, the future facility is designed for a phased rollout, ensuring efficient resource allocation and a structured expansion of services. The initial stage, slated for the third quarter of 2026, will see the procurement of essential equipment and the construction of an operator’s booth. This will be followed by a significant expansion in the project’s second phase, targeting the end of 2027, when the station’s operational capacity will be bolstered by the addition of eight mobile automotive gas dispensers, enabling the commencement of fuel sales.

The concluding phase of construction is scheduled for 2028. During this final stage, the remaining capital structures will be erected, and specialized gas compression equipment will be installed. Upon completion of all assembly and commissioning works, the enterprise will transition to a full production cycle, independently generating compressed gas from purchased raw materials to meet consumer demand. To expedite the project’s launch, a portion of the necessary technical equipment will be acquired through leasing arrangements.

Strategically located adjacent to the industrial zone of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, the station boasts optimal transport accessibility, a crucial factor for its future operations. Anton Chebyshov, CEO of TERMINALTRANSGAZ LLC, emphasized the compelling economic advantages of gas-powered vehicles. He noted that the cost of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) is significantly lower – between 60% and 70% – compared to traditional gasoline and diesel, presenting a clear incentive for businesses and individuals to transition.

Beyond economic incentives, the project champions environmental stewardship. CNG is widely recognized as a cleaner-burning fuel, contributing to a substantial reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by over 25%. Furthermore, the volume of harmful substances released during combustion is several tens of times lower than that from petroleum products. This initiative aligns with global efforts towards sustainable energy transition, positioning Kamchatka as a forward-thinking region embracing greener transportation solutions and contributing to Russia’s broader environmental goals.
