Marine Scientists Complete Comprehensive Surveys on Kamchatka Shelf

Specialists from the Kamchatka branch of the Russian Federal Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography have completed comprehensive trawl and hydrological research in the Petropavlovsk-Commander subzone.

Two research vessels – the Inzhener Martynov and the Igor Kurenkov – operated in the region from July to August. During this expedition, researchers conducted 77 bottom trawls, completed nearly 6,000 marine measurements, performed 236 full and 396 special biological analyses, and processed data from 65 hydrological stations.

The collected information will be utilized to calculate permissible catch volumes for key commercial marine species. Annual trawl surveys on the Eastern Kamchatka shelf establish the scientific foundation required for long-term ecosystem preservation and the sustainable management of regional marine resources.
