Fishery inspectors operating along the Paratunka River in Kamchatka detained a local resident after discovering a large cache of illegally harvested caviar in his vehicle. The incident occurred on July 10 during routine patrol operations on the left bank of the river in the Yelizovsky District.
During the inspection, officials found a PVC inflatable boat – an Agronavt model – alongside 72 skeins of caviar weighing a total of 16 kilograms packed into plastic bags in the suspect’s vehicle. The individual was unable to provide any documentation to verify the legal origin of the salmon roe.
The ecological damage caused to local aquatic biological resources is estimated at 455,000 rubles. The suspect now faces potential criminal charges for illegal fishing activities. Authorities have confiscated the vehicle, the boat, and the caviar, placing all seized property into secure storage pending further legal proceedings.
