An unauthorized landfill was eliminated in Kamchatka
After the intervention of the Russian Prosecutor General’s Office, an unauthorized landfill was liquidated in the Kamchatka Territory, Kamchatka.Today reports, citing the regional prosecutor’s office.
At the request of local residents, the regional prosecutor’s office conducted an inspection and found that in 2013, a municipal solid waste landfill was built on a land plot at the expense of the regional budget. It was later upgraded into a waste sorting facility.
Numerous violations of the law have been established during its operation. After the intervention of the prosecutor’s office, the operating organization of JSC Yelizovskoye Diversified Communal Services vacated a land plot of 13 thousand square meters illegally occupied for a landfill, a sanitary protection zone was approved, and a license for the use of subsurface resources was obtained in order to monitor the state of groundwater.
The head of the company was fined for non-compliance with the procedure for handling production and consumption waste, unauthorized occupation of the land plot.
In addition, given that the landfill is located near the Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky (Yelizovo) airfield, the airfield operator and the organization operating the landfill have installed additional bird protection devices (scares).
