Kamchatka brown tooth got into an accident in a nature reserve
An unusual “traffic accident” happened in the Kronotsky Nature Reserve, an environmental protection agency told Kamchatka.Today.
A Kamchatka borer appeared in the path of the snowmobile of the state inspectors who are guarding the Lazovsky site (first of all, the Shchapinsky spruce forests, so that there would be no fires and trees would not be cut down).
The insectivorous animal, whose body weight is about 5 grams, ran along the snowmobile shaft and slipped right under the skis of the car.
“We immediately stopped, of course, and began to inspect it. Everything is fine: alive, no injuries. I got so warm afterwards that I didn’t want to get off my hand,” said the inspector of the reserve, Spas Tarasov.
The Kamchatka shrew was first described in 1972. A species from the genus of shrews of the shrew family. On the peninsula, it mainly lives near Kambalny Bay, Lake Azhabachye, and the vicinity of the village of Milkovo. The animal is very small in size. The average body length is 57 mm, the average weight is 5 grams.
