Kamchatka Initiates Preparations for Kultuchnoye Lake Ecological Cleanup

The Kamchatka Krai Government has initiated the preparatory phase for the ecological rehabilitation and cleanup of Kultuchnoye Lake in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. The active phase of the project is scheduled to begin in 2027. Current preparatory activities involve specialists studying and preserving the historical and natural heritage of the water body.

Design and estimate documentation for cleaning the lakebed has been completed and has received positive expert approval. To prevent future pollution, local treatment facilities have been designed alongside a landscaping concept for the adjacent recreational zone. Construction of the first phase of these treatment facilities will commence shortly.

The objective of the initiative – an essential component of the regional environmental strategy – is not only to clean the lake but to establish a sustainable, self-regulating ecosystem. All rehabilitation operations starting in 2027 will be conducted with strict consideration for the existing biocenosis and the historical character of the area.
