Student Expedition Monitors Arctic Foxes on Bering Island

Two students from the Arctic Team have completed a 21-day expedition to monitor the Arctic fox population on Bering Island – part of the Commander Islands archipelago. The researchers traveled 36 hours by ship to reach the remote location before traversing 370 kilometers across the tundra to inspect more than 300 burrows.

In addition to their wildlife monitoring efforts, the participants assisted with infrastructure development in the nature park on neighboring Medny Island. This work included unloading materials and installing posts for a new ecological trail. The environmental initiative was supported by the Presidential Fund for Environmental and Nature Conservation Projects.
