Recreational salmon fishing regulations have been revised at site No. 766 on the Avacha River in Kamchatka to offer more flexible permit options. Anglers can now obtain licenses for smaller catches – specifically five chum salmon and ten pink salmon. Previously, the minimum permit requirements were set at ten and twenty fish, respectively.
The regional government implemented this adjustment in response to feedback from local residents. Anglers reported that fulfilling the larger quotas was frequently unattainable due to weak fish runs and high water levels in the river. The cost of the revised permits has been reduced proportionally to reflect the lower catch limits.
Individuals who prefer the original quota limits retain the option to purchase full permits. This regulatory change aims to increase flexibility and maintain broad public access to recreational fishing – a traditional activity in the region. Permits are available for processing either through the regional government services portal or directly at the fishing site.
