Poaching activities remain high across the water bodies of the Kamchatka Peninsula. During a week of patrols from July 27 to August 3, federal fishery inspectors apprehended 114 individuals violating fishing regulations. Authorities seized 460 kilograms of illegally harvested fish, alongside 25 vehicles and 80 pieces of fishing gear. Four of the apprehended individuals face criminal charges for the illegal extraction of aquatic biological resources.
The majority of the offenses involved breaches of fishery regulations, habitat protection laws, and the operational guidelines for economic activities. Additionally, some of those detained had been evading previously issued administrative penalties.
A total of 58 enforcement teams – comprising 41 stationary checkpoints and 17 mobile patrol units – are currently deployed to combat illegal fishing across the inland waters of the Kamchatka Territory and the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug.
