Law enforcement authorities conducting an anti-poaching operation in the Kamchatka region have intercepted multiple instances of illegal salmon fishing across various districts. Over the course of a single week, the total environmental and economic damage exceeded 500,000 rubles.
In the regional capital of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, two individuals utilizing an illegal net were apprehended with 161 kilograms of salmonids. The seized catch – which included whitespotted char, Arctic char, pink salmon, and chum salmon – resulted in an estimated 250,000 rubles in damages.
Similar enforcement actions in the Yelizovsky district led to the detention of two more individuals. One suspect was found with 56 kilograms of chum salmon – causing 72,000 rubles in damage – while the other possessed 65 kilograms, accounting for an additional 92,000 rubles in losses.
In Zavoiko Bay, authorities detained two separate poachers. The first individual illegally extracted 30 kilograms of fish using a spinning rod, whereas the second harvested nearly 120 kilograms using prohibited net systems.
All intercepted fish – alongside the boats, outboard motors, and fishing gear used in the operations – have been confiscated. Criminal proceedings have been initiated for each of these poaching incidents.
