The rise of ash from the slopes of the Shiveluch volcano has been recorded in Kamchatka. This was reported in the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the region.
“On the afternoon of January 25, according to the Kamchatka Volcanic Eruption Response Group (KVERT), a rise of resuspended ash from the slopes of the Shiveluch volcano to a height of up to 3,000 m was recorded, while the height of the giant itself is 3,283 m. The ash plume spread over 70 km in the direction of the Kamchatka Bay,” the ministry said.
The village of Ust-Kamchatsk, the villages of Krutoberegovo and Nikolskoye are on the path of the spread of the ash plume. It is possible that a small amount of volcanic ash will fall in the settlements of the Ust-Kamchatsky and Aleutian municipal districts.
Shiveluch is an active volcano in Kamchatka, consisting of the Old Shiveluch volcano, an ancient caldera and the active Young Shiveluch volcano, its age is 60-70 thousand years. It is located at a distance of about 50 km from the village of Klyuchi in Ust-Kamchatsky district and 450 km from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. The volcano has been assigned an orange aviation hazard code, meaning its eruption poses a danger to low-flying aircraft.
