Snow sheep caught in the lens of inspectors of a nature park in Kamchatka
In the Nalychevo Nature Park, a large snow sheep was not afraid of people and allowed for video filming, the KAMCHATKA-INFORM RAI reports.
According to the Volcanoes of Kamchatka network of natural parks, while patrolling the Avacha Pass, inspectors unexpectedly encountered a Kamchatka snow sheep.
“This magnificent and graceful animal species can only be seen on rare occasions, and meeting it always becomes a real gift for nature lovers,” the park noted.
The Kamchatka subspecies of the bighorn sheep is relatively poorly studied. The animal is also known as a chub, a hornbill. This is a beautiful artiodactyl, whose head is decorated with amazing horns, a real masterpiece of nature. They are characteristic of both females and males.
In females, the horns are curved saber-shaped with different angles of divergence, the length of the horns of females does not exceed 30 cm (rarely more). In males, horns develop according to the classical scheme of a homonymous spiral stretched from one end to the other. In this regard, the total collapse of the horns (the distance from one end of the horn to the other) can be quite large: up to 110 cm.
According to the website safari-expert.ru The two most outstanding record trophies of the snow sheep belong specifically to the Kamchatka subspecies.
