Camera traps helped to detect illegal waste dumping in Kamchatka
A number of environmental violations were recorded by representatives of the regional Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment in the Yelizovsky and Ust-Bolsheretsky districts, the KAMCHATKA-INFORM RAI reports, citing information from the agency.
Officials conducted the raids after receiving complaints from residents of Kamchatka villages, as well as comments from public environmental inspectors. Representatives of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment armed themselves with camera traps and drones and saw something wrong – from sewage dumping to illegal burning of tires.
“Violations related to the discharge of liquid household waste onto the terrain in the area of Kavalerskoye village, Sokoch village, Lesnoy village were recorded, while the facts in the Kavalerskoye area were recorded by inspectors immediately at the time of discharge using specialized equipment from a budget institution. Also, with the help of UAVs, the fact of the placement of snow exported from the territory of Sokoch settlement within the boundaries of the Plotnikov River water protection zone was revealed,” the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment said.
At one of the construction sites near the village of Kavalerskoe, the raid participants saw the storage of old car tires. They did not hear about recycling there – the rubber, which belongs to the waste of hazard class IV, was simply burned by the workers in the furnace, actively polluting the atmospheric air. A dump of old wheels was also found in Apache. All violations are currently being investigated, and the results of the raids will also be sent to the Environmental Prosecutor’s office.
