At a meeting of the Committee on Environmental Management, Agrarian Policy and Environmental Safety of the Legislative Assembly of the Kamchatka Territory, issues of compliance with environmental legislation by gold mining enterprises operating in the region were discussed, the KAMCHATKA-INFORM agency reports.

The meeting, chaired by Oksana Gerasimova, was attended by representatives of the regional government, the regional ministries of Natural Resources and Ecology, fisheries, Forestry and Hunting, Rosprirodnadzor, as well as the public and the Siberian Mining and Metallurgical Alliance Joint Stock Company.

According to the company’s press service, during the discussion of the issues on the agenda, representatives of the Kamchatka Territory authorities, as well as supervisory authorities, asked questions about the company’s activities, including previously issued regulations. The meeting participants noted the openness and willingness to dialogue on the part of the new management of the company.

“The analysis of control and supervisory activities in relation to a legal entity (SiGMA JSC) shows us a positive trend in comparison with previous years, when the company’s management refused any interaction and communicated exclusively within the framework of court proceedings. Today, the situation has changed dramatically, for example, new project documentation is being developed that takes into account changes in legislation,” said Oksana Prisenko, Head of the State Environmental Supervision Department of the Interregional Directorate of Rosprirodnadzor.

Alexander Babushkin, CEO of SiGMA JSC, said that the company has taken a new course towards continuous development in accordance with business quality standards: “I would like to note that the new vector of development of SiGMA JSC is aimed at confirming the status of a socially responsible company. We have developed an action plan, are actively engaged in dialogue with the authorities and administrations of the municipalities of the Kamchatka Territory, and are concluding new agreements that pay special attention to ecology and safety. More recently, our specialists have developed a corporate environmental policy, which has been implemented into the company’s work.”

Following the meeting, it was decided to continue active cooperation within the framework of SiGMA JSC’s work plan for 2025.
