Vilyuchinsky volcano closed to tourists
Climbing the Vilyuchinsky volcano has been banned on the peninsula, as the route poses a threat to life due to rockfalls, Kamchatka.Today reports with reference to the Ministry of Tourism of the Kamchatka Territory.
Vilyuchinsky volcano is closed for climbing due to natural seasonal reasons – the path may be accompanied by dangerous surprises.
“Now there are regular masses of snow coming down, a waterfall has formed on top and rockfalls are increasing. The Volcanoes of Kamchatka Network of Nature Parks reported that this has been happening every year for thousands of years,” the Ministry of Tourism said.
Tourists are urged not to risk their lives and temporarily abandon visiting the volcano. Warnings are also valid for organized groups.
The Vilyuchinsky volcano is located in the south of Kamchatka, on the watershed of the Vilyuch and Bolshaya Sarannaya rivers, in the upper reaches of the Paratunka River. The giant is an extinct stratovolcano, it is represented by a regular cone with a height of 2173 meters above sea level.
