Measures to preserve fish stocks and support traditional fishing are being discussed in Kamchatka. Yuri Tatarinov, Head of the Northeastern Territorial Administration of the Federal Fisheries Agency, together with Andrei Zdetovetsky, Minister of Fisheries of the Kamchatka Territory, held a working meeting with residents of the village of Palana and Andrei Prigoreanu, head of the Tigil district.
One of the key topics was a noticeable decrease in the number of applications submitted for traditional fishing from representatives of the indigenous peoples of the North compared to last year. The meeting participants discussed the need to step up awareness-raising and possible ways to simplify the application procedure to ensure the rights of indigenous people to access aquatic biological resources.
Special attention was paid to the problem of overfishing of smelt in the rivers of the Tigil district. The head of the municipality, Andrei Prigoreanu, pointed out a significant influx of amateur fishermen in winter, which creates an excessive burden on the population of this type of fish. In response, Yuri Tatarinov proposed to consider the issue of limiting smelt fishing in a special working group. A subsequent decision may be submitted to the Far Eastern Scientific and Commercial Council for making appropriate changes to the current fishing regulations.
In addition, Yuri Tatarinov held a separate meeting with inspectors of the Department of control, supervision and protection of aquatic biological resources and their habitat in the Koryak district. During the meeting, issues related to the preparation and holding of the Salmon Putin 2025 in the territory of the Tigilsky municipal district were discussed. Aspects of the logistical support of the inspection staff, including the renewal of uniforms and the repair of office premises, were also touched upon.
