Fishery patrol officers in the Kamchatka region apprehended 94 violators during targeted operations on local water bodies between July 13 and 20. Authorities seized 304 kilograms of illegally harvested fish, along with 16 vehicles and 63 pieces of fishing equipment from the poachers.
The most frequently recorded offenses involved violations of fishing regulations and habitat protection rules, alongside the evasion of previous administrative penalties. To combat these environmental crimes, 19 dedicated task forces are currently patrolling the region’s waterways, supported by 25 stationary monitoring posts, and the enforcement raids remain ongoing.
Financial penalties for illegal fishing in Kamchatka are strictly enforced per individual fish, regardless of the specimen’s size or weight. Poachers face fines of 11,575 rubles for a single sockeye salmon, while penalties for other species are structured as follows: Chinook and coho salmon – 10,635 rubles; chum salmon – 2,009 rubles; pink salmon – 961 rubles; and char – 925 rubles. Furthermore, the environmental damage compensation rate for illegally harvested red caviar is established at 27,455 rubles per kilogram.
