Authorities in the Kamchatka Krai have urged tourists, hunters, and tour organizers to cancel trips to active volcanoes in the Yelizovsky District. These restrictions are tied to a high-alert regime implemented due to increased volcanic activity. Tour operators are advised to exclude active volcanoes from their itineraries, while visitors and extreme sports enthusiasts should refrain from approaching these sites entirely. This guidance regarding the modification of travel programs will remain in effect for the entire duration of the special safety regime.
Unstable geological conditions are currently recorded across multiple areas of the peninsula. Ongoing eruptions are occurring at the Shiveluch, Bezymianny, and Krasheninnikov volcanoes. Simultaneously, volcanologists are monitoring heightened activity at Klyuchevskoy, the highest active volcano in Eurasia. The Mutnovsky and Karymsky volcanoes also remain in a highly unstable state. Human presence near these natural sites poses a direct safety threat due to the severe risks of sudden ash plumes, the descent of pyroclastic flows, and hazardous fluctuations in atmospheric gas concentrations.
A recent episode of volcanic activity occurred on the morning of July 8. The Shiveluch volcano produced an ash plume reaching approximately seven kilometers above sea level, an event recorded at 07:47 local time. The aviation color code for this region is currently set to orange – indicating that fine airborne rock particles could pose a significant hazard to the engines of passing aircraft. Furthermore, ashfall on the ground creates serious health risks for individuals caught in the affected zone without respiratory protection.
