Volunteers can free a baby killer whale from a plastic garrote in the sea
Volunteers of the Friends of the Ocean marine animal assistance group can free a baby killer whale in Kamchatka, which is entangled in a plastic ribbon, without capture, Kamchatka.Today reports, citing Tatiana Ivkovich, biologist, head of scientific expeditions of the Far Eastern FEROP killer whale project.
“We contacted Friends of the Ocean, who have experience in such situations, they helped to remove the rope from the humpback whale in Teriberki and regularly remove ropes from seals, they have theoretical knowledge, practical and tools. In my opinion, these are the only people who can help in any way, and we are in touch with them. I think catching a cub is a big risk, it’s very small. We must try to carry out a rescue operation in the natural environment,” Tatiana Ivkovich said.
The biologist also asked her colleagues who are currently working in the Avacha Bay to inform her about meetings with a female killer whale and her cub.
Let us remind you that scientists in Kamchatka met a baby killer whale in the waters of the Avacha Bay next to its mother, wrapped in plastic tape. There is a possibility that with active growth, if the mammal is not released, the cub may die.
