A short flowering season of lisichitons has begun in Kamchatka. The Kamchatka relict Time-wing blooms for only two weeks, Kamchatka.Today reports.

In early May, residents of Kamchatka and guests of the peninsula have the opportunity to observe a truly fantastic sight: in the middle of the forest, which has not yet woken up from hibernation, lizichitons – relict flowers, the same age as dinosaurs, which bloom violently for only two weeks, spread their snow–white cloaks on last year’s brown leaves and dry grass.

This year, the flowering of lisichitons began a little earlier than usual. The nearest clearings are located in Ust-Bolsheretsky district, the road to them from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky takes about two hours. Large and bright flowers do not hide from tourists. The places of flowering are visible directly from the highway. Moreover, at the traffic police post near the village of Apache, the administration, together with the Kamchatka Union of Guides, installed an information banner that contains all the most important information about lizihitons. Tourists are informed that flowers should not be picked – they smell extremely unpleasant, and their fruits are poisonous. Well, they urge you not to leave garbage in the glades.

Lisichiton of Kamchatka, or the Temporary Kamchatka Wing (Latin Lysichiton camtschatcensis), is a relic of warmer climatic periods. A poisonous perennial herbaceous plant with unusual-looking inflorescences and huge leaves. The natural habitat of the species is the Russian Far East and Japan; it grows in humid places.
