Kamchatka young scientists were taught how to use the curvimeter device
On the day of the geologist, which is celebrated today, an exciting lesson “Introduction to Geology” was held for young naturalists of the Kronotsky Nature Reserve, Kamchatka.Today reports.
The young researchers brought to the lesson family collections of minerals collected by their parents, older brothers and sisters. Anatoly Matvienko, a guide at the geological museum and a leading engineer at the Kamchatka branch of the Territorial Fund for Geological Information in the Far Eastern Federal District, acted as a teacher on this day.
“We listened to the story with bated breath. How our planet works, what rocks mountains and volcanoes are made of, even about what kind there are on Mars, for example, the extinct Olympus volcano with a height of 26 kilometers, the tallest in the Solar system! The lecturer also brought his worn field diary, with which he had been on many geological expeditions, and a compass from the post-war period in the middle of the last century. He told me how to keep proper records about the basic equipment of geologists “in the fields.” And with the help of the kurvimeter device, Anatoly Arsentievich taught the youngsters to measure the distance of winding routes on the map,” said Elena Shmeleva, head of the Youngsters Club of the Kronotsky Nature Reserve.
During the lesson, the geologist really fascinated the children with his profession, and to strengthen their interest, the lecturer presented his young listeners with a globe and a collection of rock samples of minerals.
