In Vilyuchinsk, a gambling goshawk got trapped in a dovecote
A resident of Vilyuchinsk discovered a bird of prey in his dovecote on a private farmstead. He reported the uninvited guest to the EDDS, Kamchatka.Today reports.
Apparently, the predator got behind the “bars” in a fit of hunting excitement. An inspector of the Wildlife Protection Service arrived at the scene. After assessing the situation, he retrieved the bird from the dovecote. Upon closer inspection, the specialist determined that it was a goshawk.
There was no damage to the bird, it behaved very actively, trying to escape from the inspector’s hands and causing damage to him. Under these circumstances, he realized that the predator was fine and did not need help.
The bird was taken to the forest away from Vilyuchinsk and released into the wild.
The grouse hawk (also known as the pigeon coop, chicken coop, and duckling hawk) is the largest species of the hawk genus. They prey on birds, mammals, invertebrates, medium and large reptiles. The victim can be up to half the weight of a grouse. The diet depends on the habitat of the hawk, but in general they hunt hares, squirrels, wild grouse and grouse.
Hawks are also found in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. Predators prey on pigeons.
