Anti-Poaching Patrols Intensified for Kamchatka Salmon Spawning Season

Anti-poaching patrols have been intensified along the rivers of the western coast of Kamchatka during the salmon spawning season. Representatives of the Bolshaya River Association, working alongside fishery protection inspectors, have established stationary observation posts and are conducting regular water patrols to protect the migrating fish.

Since the beginning of the salmon run, enforcement teams have seized nearly 120 kilograms of illegally caught fish, along with boats and fishing nets, from poachers operating in the western part of the peninsula. Hundreds of anti-poaching raids and environmental inspections have been carried out throughout the region. These operations have resulted in the issuance of more than 200 administrative citations and the initiation of several criminal cases.

The Bolshaya River Association was established in 2016 and currently comprises ten regional fishing enterprises. Over ten years of operation, these collaborative conservation efforts have successfully increased the volume of salmon reaching their spawning grounds and stabilized the ecological situation – ensuring the sustainable management of aquatic resources across the local river networks.
