Last year, hunting inspectors recorded more than 120 violations on the peninsula, including cases of “black” hunting, the Kamchatka Territory Ministry of Forestry told RAI KAMCHATKA-INFORM.

State hunting inspectors of the Ministry and the Wildlife Protection Service conducted about 2,400 forest patrols over the year, responding, among other things, to appeals from concerned residents. The participants of the raids used drones to record violations of hunting laws.

“96 hunters were brought to administrative responsibility, 4 firearms were seized, 5 bears and 7 moose were illegally hunted. Hunting–related legal entities were also not ignored, 11 cases were sent to the courts. For the illegal extraction of moose in the territory of the Milkovsky district, the violator voluntarily paid damage to hunting resources in the amount of 240,000 rubles. According to the court’s decision, the vehicle and firearms were seized and turned into state revenue,” said Vsevolod Voropanov, head of the Forestry and Hunting Control Department of the Ministry of Forestry.

Not all administrative and criminal cases have reached court yet. In particular, the investigation into the shooting of bears from a helicopter continues, this high-profile case occurred at the end of April in the Udochka River nature reserve in the Ust-Bolsheretsky district. Initially, it was reported that Anton Artemenko, Deputy head of the Eastern Department of Management of the Investigative Committee of Russia, may be involved in illegal hunting, but after the inspection, he continues to work in his position.

Representatives of the Ministry of Forestry urge witnesses of poaching in Kamchatka not to stand aside and immediately call 112 in case of violations.
