Vacationers warned about bacteria in Kamchatka Lake
Residents of the peninsula are urged not to swim in Lake Mikizha, located in the Paratunsky Valley – it is teeming with bacteria, Kamchatka.Today reports, citing the administration of the Yelizovsky district.
The state of the lake, which is located one and a half kilometers northwest of the village of Paratunka, was checked by Rospotrebnadzor employees. During the sanitary and hygienic monitoring, the specialists took water samples and studied its composition in laboratories.
“According to the results of laboratory studies of water samples from Lake Mikizha, it was found that the waters of the facility do not meet the requirements of sanitary legislation according to microbiological indicators: enterococci were found in the amount of 7.7 *101 CFU/100 cubic cm with a hygienic standard of no more than 10 CFU /100 cubic cm,” the administration said.
Enterococcus is a genus of gram–positive bacteria. They are the causative agents of urinary tract infections, intra-abdominal infections, pelvic infections, wound infections and endocarditis. According to doctors, the provoking factor can be the elderly age of a person, severe diseases, violations of the barrier function of the skin and the suppression of normal microflora by antibiotics.
Due to violations of hygiene standards, sanitary doctors urged residents of Kamchatka to refrain from swimming in the lake and not to use the lake for sports.
