Large-scale preparations for the summer tourist season, which traditionally starts in July, are underway in the South Kamchatka Federal Reserve. This time attracts travelers and photographers from all over the world to the shores of the famous Kuril Lake, eager to witness one of the most impressive natural phenomena — mass spawning of sockeye salmon and grandiose bear fishing against the backdrop of majestic volcanic landscapes.
In anticipation of the influx of guests, employees of specially protected natural areas are actively working to ensure comfort and safety on ecological routes, the press service of the Kronotsky Nature Reserve reports. Preparations for the reception of visitors are underway at the Ozerny and Travyan cordons. In early July, the reserve will also host young researchers participating in a family educational program from neighboring settlements. For a comfortable stay for tourists, inspectors and volunteers put guest houses in order and set up large tents on the shore.
Special attention is paid to the infrastructure capable of withstanding the harsh conditions of the region. Floating piers have already been installed on both cordons — the optimal solution for the troubled waters of Lake Kuril, which is under the influence of the Sea of Okhotsk. Unlike stationary wooden structures that would not be able to withstand strong waves, pontoon piers have proven their reliability and convenience. They are made of durable polymer material and partially filled with water for stability, which allows them to withstand rolling. At the end of the season, in late autumn, the piers are easily dismantled and stored until next year.
“Piers can be of different designs and accommodate a different number of watercraft so that everyone can comfortably accommodate. We have been using them for many years. This is a very convenient solution for boarding tourists and employees on boats,” Liana Varavskaya, State Inspector of the Kronotsky State Nature Reserve, shared the details.
The main characters of the upcoming season — Kamchatka brown bears — are already beginning to gather on the shores of the lake. While people are preparing the infrastructure, the predators show no interest in the work, patiently waiting for the start of the annual fish feast. Their calm presence only underlines the uniqueness of the moment and the anticipation of the grandiose natural spectacle that will soon begin.
