Salmon poacher caught in eastern Kamchatka

Rosrybolovstvo employees stopped illegal salmon fishing on the Kamchatka River in the Ust-Kamchatsky district, the KAMCHATKA-INFORM agency was informed in the North-Eastern Territorial Department of the department.

A man on a boat with an outboard motor was fishing with a prohibited fishing gear.

“Fish inspectors removed a fishing net from the water, in which 25 specimens of sockeye salmon with a total weight of 40 kg were found. The damage caused to aquatic biological resources is estimated at almost 290 thousand rubles,” the ministry said.

The net, boat and illegally harvested salmon were seized and placed in safe custody. Administrative proceedings have been initiated against the violator, which was referred to the police for a decision to initiate proceedings under Article 256 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (Illegal extraction (fishing) of aquatic biological resources).

A fine of 11,575 rubles has been imposed for illegal fishing of one sockeye salmon specimen, regardless of size and weight. The fine for one specimen of chinook and coho salmon is 10,635 rubles, for chum salmon – 2,009 rubles, and for pink salmon – 961 rubles. The damage calculation fee for one kilogram of red caviar is 27,455 rubles.
