Efficiency of salmon population restoration assessed in Kamchatka

The main part of the chum salmon produced by Kamchatka fishermen is made up of individuals raised at state fish hatcheries, Kamchatka.Today reports with reference to Rosrybolovstvo.

As noted in the department, the Kamchatka Territory is the main region of Pacific salmon production. Only the state fish hatcheries of the Federal State Budgetary Institution Glavrybvod are engaged in the restoration of stocks of valuable red fish.

According to a study evaluating the effectiveness of artificial reproduction of Pacific salmon, almost 90% of the chum salmon caught in the Paratunka River were raised in fish hatcheries, and more than 56% in the Avacha River.

Salmon farms compensate for the significant fishing burden exerted due to the high population density and active extraction of red fish. The average long-term share of farmed fish exceeds 34% in the Paratunka River and 10% in the Avacha River.

Every year, specialists release more than 40 million juveniles into the rivers of Kamchatka. Over the past five years, Glavrybvod has released more than 265 million salmon from its plants into the waters of the peninsula.

Pacific salmon fishing in Kamchatka this year is significantly ahead of the previous two years.
