Kamchatka Upgrades Waste Management Infrastructure in Palana

New municipal solid waste collection sites have been constructed and existing facilities repaired in Palana, located in Russia’s Kamchatka Krai. A total of 16 enclosed waste collection sites are now operational across the municipality.

In addition to the new installations, seven existing sites have undergone comprehensive renovations. The upgrades include the replacement of locking mechanisms, windows, and metal cladding, alongside the priming and painting of structural components. Motion-sensor lighting has also been installed at two of the locations to improve visibility and security.

Approximately 6.1 million rubles from regional and local budgets were allocated this year for the installation and renovation of these environmental facilities.

The waste collection sites in Palana are designed as enclosed structures – featuring dedicated doors and waste disposal hatches – which effectively secure the contents of the bins from wind, precipitation, and animal access. These enclosures prevent the containers from freezing or sustaining damage, streamlining the loading and removal of waste during severe weather conditions.

Concurrent with the waste management upgrades, a major overhaul of transformer substation No. 16 has been completed. This infrastructure improvement is intended to enhance the overall reliability of the electrical power supply throughout Palana.
