Kamchatka Nature Reserve Concludes Seasonal Inspector Training

Approximately 15 seasonal inspectors deploy to Kamchatka during the peak season to patrol and protect the territories of the Kronotsky Nature Reserve. Prior to their departure at the end of the season, these personnel completed an advanced law enforcement and operational training program. The deployment of seasonal inspectors at Kuril Lake in the South Kamchatka Sanctuary, as well as the Valley of Geysers and the Uzon caldera in the Kronotsky Nature Reserve, is critical for preserving natural ecosystems, ensuring visitor safety on designated routes, and enforcing strict conservation regulations.

Security personnel from various regions across Russia provide essential support during the busiest field season. Without this seasonal expansion of the security force – which provides up to 15 additional inspectors – the permanent staff of 50 would be unable to simultaneously patrol three protected areas covering more than one million hectares, monitor tourist groups, and prevent poaching during peak visitation periods. Before the seasonal staff returned to their home regions, the reserve management conducted specialized briefings to improve future field operations.

The primary training module focused on procedures for intercepting environmental law violators and correctly drafting legal documentation when registering offenses. This includes specific protocols for managing unauthorized tourist groups found within the protected territories. Furthermore, operational management delivered an instructional session on the deployment of specialized transport vehicles. The briefing covered the use of off-road vehicles, motorboats, and snowmobiles, directly addressing the logistical challenges of operating motorized equipment in remote and highly inaccessible conservation areas.
