Fishery protection inspectors on the Kolpakova River in the Sobolevsky District of Kamchatka detained a man in possession of 8.2 kilograms of poached chum salmon roe. The individual was operating without the mandatory fishing permits – a strict requirement for harvesting aquatic biological resources in the region.
The suspect utilized an illegal set net to catch multiple chum salmon, subsequently extracting the roe from the fish. The total financial damage inflicted on the local aquatic ecosystems is estimated at more than 450,000 rubles.
Law enforcement agencies are currently reviewing the case materials to initiate criminal proceedings for the illegal harvesting of aquatic resources under Article 256 of the Russian Criminal Code. The confiscated nets and salmon roe have been placed in secure storage pending further legal action.
