State fishery inspectors and environmental representatives from the Bolshaya River Association have detained a driver transporting a substantial cargo of illegally harvested red caviar.
Authorities intercepted a Toyota Land Cruiser near the Plotnikova River in the Yelizovsky District of Kamchatka. Upon inspecting the vehicle, officials discovered more than 450 kilograms of salmon caviar. The driver failed to produce any legal documentation or permits for the marine products.
The environmental damage resulting from this illicit harvesting operation is estimated to exceed 13 million rubles. Both the confiscated caviar and the vehicle have been placed in secure storage facilities pending further investigation.
Law enforcement agencies are currently reviewing the incident – a procedure that is expected to result in the initiation of formal criminal proceedings.
